Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on how our skip tracing works, compliance, pricing, turnaround, and what lands in your report.

Skip Tracing Basics

What is skip tracing?

Skip tracing is the process of locating a person’s current whereabouts, address, phone, employment, by cross-referencing public, proprietary, and investigative data sources. Professionals use it to find defendants, debtors, witnesses, heirs, and people who are otherwise hard to reach.

What information do I need to start a search?

The more you share, the faster and sharper the result, but a full name plus one identifier (a phone number, an old address, or a date of birth) is usually enough to begin. Each service lists exactly what it needs on its order form.

How accurate are your results?

Every result is cross-referenced across multiple licensed sources and reviewed before it goes out, and many reports include a confidence rating on the primary address. If we can’t return a meaningful result, you aren’t charged.

What if you can’t find the subject?

No hit, no charge. If we can’t locate your subject, we refund the order automatically, you don’t need to ask. This applies to every service except the Motor Vehicle Report, which carries a non-refundable state fee, so a partial refund applies there.

Compliance & Permissible Purpose

Do I need a permissible purpose?

Yes. Every order requires a documented permissible purpose under applicable law, for example service of process, litigation preparation, judgment enforcement, debt collection, fraud investigation, or locating a witness or heir. You select your purpose and certify it when you order.

Is skip tracing legal?

Yes, when it’s done for a permissible purpose under laws like the FCRA, GLBA, and DPPA. Every order on our platform captures a documented purpose and your certification, which is what keeps the request lawful.

What counts as a permissible purpose?

Common ones include service of process, litigation preparation, judgment enforcement, debt collection, fraud and insurance investigation, due diligence, and locating witnesses, heirs, or beneficiaries. You pick yours from a list and certify it at checkout.

Are these FCRA consumer reports?

No. We are not a consumer reporting agency, and our reports are not consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. They may not be used to decide credit, employment, tenant, or insurance eligibility. If you need an FCRA consumer report, you’ll need a consumer reporting agency.

Can I use this for personal reasons, like finding an old friend?

No. Our reports require a professional permissible purpose. Personal, curiosity, or relationship-tracing uses aren’t permitted, and there’s no way to order without certifying a lawful purpose.

Will the subject know they’ve been searched?

No. Searches are confidential, the subject isn’t notified, and your search is never shared, sold, or indexed.

Pricing & Payment

How much does a search cost?

Flat, per-search pricing, starting at $59 for a Quick Locate and rising for deeper or restricted reports. Every price is shown on the service before you order, with no subscriptions and no monthly minimums.

Do you charge a subscription?

No. You pay per search, and only for the searches you run, no seat licenses, no monthly fees, no minimums.

Do you offer volume or business pricing?

For recurring or high-volume needs, get in touch and we’ll work something out. Standard orders are flat-rate, per search.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit and debit cards, through a secure Stripe checkout, your card details never touch our servers.

What’s your refund policy?

No hit, no charge: if we can’t locate your subject, the refund is automatic. The one exception is the Motor Vehicle Report, which carries a non-refundable state fee, so a partial refund applies there. A delivered result on the information you provided is final.

Turnaround & Delivery

How fast will I get my report?

Most searches are completed the same business day (Mon-Fri, 8 AM to 8 PM PT) and delivered to your inbox, typically within an hour, as a clean, professionally formatted PDF.

How will I receive my report?

By email, as a clean PDF, through a secure one-time link. There’s no account to create, your order is tied to the email you provide.

What’s included in a report?

It depends on the service, each one lists exactly what it returns on its detail page. The Comprehensive Skip Trace, for example, pulls current and past addresses, phone numbers, employment, email and social profiles, and likely relatives.

Can I order more searches after I get my report?

Of course, just place another order. Many customers run a Quick Locate first, then order a deeper report once they know what they need.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Orders are per-ticket and tied to your contact email, so there’s nothing to sign up for or log into.

Data, Security & Your Report

Where does your data come from?

We cross-reference billions of records across licensed public, proprietary, and investigative data sources, then a trained investigator reviews and verifies the results before delivery.

Who runs the searches?

Trained investigators on our team, every order is run and reviewed individually, not generated by an automated tool.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, and your searches are never shared, sold, or indexed.

Can I use the report in a legal matter?

Our reports are built for case files and are widely used to support service of process, collections, and litigation. Whether a specific record is admissible in a given proceeding is up to the court and your counsel, we provide the investigative research, not legal advice.
